Do you blame music for children killing people?
LinkinPark Fan asked:
Seems like a lot of people blame Marilyn Manson and others for children shooting other people. Do you think it was the music’s fault? Why?

A child’s attitude determines the music he or she listens to, not the other way around.

Yes, music is physically getting guns and shooting up schools… No, I don’t blame music for children killing people. I blame the stupid kids.

I’m sorry, but I’m almost positive Maryilyn Manson or any other artist can possibly influence someone to kill. Dance, head bang maybe but kill? No. No subliminal messages that are even put into music work, so terrible parents should stop using that excuse next time little Johnny cuts the neighbours arm off.

The music is nothing, I think it’s the parent’s faults for not paying more attention to their kids if they’re shooting people. Same thing if the kids were killing themselves, the music is plain harmless.

If a kid’s messed up before he listens to Marilyn Manson then it can be dangerous.

I personally don’t blame music because I think that there are tons of more important factors that influence these actions, such as their private life or the way that they’re treated by people. I can, however, see the opposing side’s argument. Music does tend to work on your emotions a bit. Do I think this is the primary factor? Certainly not. Like I said, they need to check more into these children’s personal lives rather than their personal playlists.

No, I blame parents for not regulating the things that their see or listen to and not properly raising their kids and teaching them how to become adults and schools for corrupting them by letting rotten kids in there and letting them poison others (you know what they say, one bad apple spoils the bunch)

amm..hell no. How can music be the cause of a kid killing someone? The reason they killed someone is because their messed up the the head..something not right in their brain. Don’t blame music on such a thing. The kid was just not right!!! PERIOD..end of discussion!!

Absolutely.
I mean it couldn’t have anything to do with society, mental illness/instability or the way they’re brought up, could it?

No it is really the parents fault, they think the media and tv will raise their child and if the Child is that messed up that they actually do what they music says, the parents should realize this and Keep an eye on the kid, Most of the time the kids will get the weapons from there parents gun cabinet or wherever the keep the Weapons, Because the parents do not keep it locked, Usually before the kid does something like that there are Pretty obvious signs to look out for and red flags, So Most of the time things like this happens because the Parents do not keep an eye out for their child.

Maybe a tiny bit, I mean if a child listens to music about killing then…but there has to be some other factor because there are a lot of people who listen to that same music and do not kill people.
Kip Kinkel listened to Marilyn Manson and one day he killed his parents and took a gun to school. But noy every kid that listens to Manson does that.

“Blame” isn’t the right word, but I think popular acceptance of music (or any pop culture, for that matter) will influence the cultural landscape. (Vaguest response ever).
I listen to plenty of music I find morally objectionable in one way or another.

You can’t blame an artist. You have to blame the CAUSE of the child’s actions (i.e., bullies, abuse, etc) You can’t really blame the music.
